Comedian George Lopez has decided to call it quits with his wife of nearly two decades, Ann Lopez. The couple, who wed in 1993, released a statement through their rep.
“George and Ann Lopez have made the decision to end their 17 year marriage. The decision is amicable and by mutual agreement. They remain dedicated parents, and committed partners in business and their philanthropic organization, The Lopez Foundation.”
The couple have experienced more than most. In 2004 Ann gave George one of her kidneys after he was diagnosed with a genetic condition that caused kidney failure.
The announcement comes as a shock because the couple attended the PADRES Contra El Cancer 25th Anniversary Gala last Thursday, looking very happy while posing for pictures and embracing each other.
George, 49, stars in a self-produced ABC sitcom George Lopez and is host of Lopez Tonight on TBS. Time magazine named him one of “The 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America” in 2005.
The couple have a 15-year- old daughter Mayan Lopez.
