R&B singer Mario told US Magazine that, while he is not “allowed to comment” on his recent arrest for allegedly assaulting his mother, he does want fans to know that he loves her.

“I love my mother very much… I will continue to support her any way that I can,” Mario told the magazine in an exclusive interview.

The 24-year-old singer was taken into custody and charged with second degree assault on Friday after his mom, Shawntia Hardaway, told cops he had been damaging property at their home in Baltimore, Maryland and had reportedly shoved her with his hands.

Mario’s attorney, William “Hassan” Murphy III, calls it “an unfortunate incident” between a loving son and a mother who has had drug problems.

A source told the magazine that the incident occurred when Mario discovered his mother had made charges on his credit cards and had withdrawn money from his bank account to support her drug habit.

Hardaway was allegedly “cracked out on drugs” when Mario got home, the source also said.

Mario appeared in the 2007 documentary I Won’t Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom in which he staged an intervention for his heroin-addicted mom. Check out video HERE.
