Last night at a packed Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas, Manny Pacquiao won by unanimous decision against Antonio Margarito. He can now add world’s top boxer to his list of creds with his new title WBC Super Welterweight Champion.
Over the course of round 12 – Pacquiao launched 1069 blows and landed 400 power punches. The final decision went to Pacquiao: 120-108, 118-110, 119-109.
The Filipino pro boxer and politician is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions. He is currently rated the “number one” pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by several sporting news and boxing websites, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports and Yahoo! Sports.
In the post fight interview, Manny said: “Margarito was my toughest fight. He hurt me badly to the body and head in the sixth round. He is very strong and has a great heart.” His hands took a beating and he apologized for being unable to sign autographs after the fight.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddi Roach claims that Margarito’s trainer Robert Garcia “probably ruined” Margarito’s career by letting the bout continue. “I have a warrior,” Garcia answered.
Pacquiao’s victory will increase public demand for a showdown with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. Manny said he would love to see this fight take place but added: “If it does not happen, I am still happy with where I am in my career.”
