Elizabeth Edwards 1949-2010
Elizabeth Edwards lost her six-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. The sad news came just one day after it was announced that she had discontinued all treatment and was resting comfortably.
Elizabeth died at the family home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, surrounded by family and friends including her husband John Edwards. The couple have been estranged but decided not to divorce because of her illness and the future of her children.
The family released this statement: “Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life.”
The lawyer, author and mother was 61. She is survived by her husband and three living children: Catharine, Emma Claire and Jack. She is preceded in death by a son Wade, who was killed in a car accident in 1996.
