Tupac and his mother Afeni Shakur in 1990
Prison inmate Dexter Isaac came forward yesterday, on what would have been Tupac Shakur‘s 40th birthday, claiming to have been one of the men who ambushed the rapper in the notorious 1994 shooting.
Dexter, who is serving a life sentence for murder and robbery, claims that on Nov. 30, 1994, he was at Manhattan’s Qua Studios and shot Tupac five times.
He alleges that he was paid $2,500 by James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond to carry out the hit.
In a prison interview, Isaac told AllHipHop.com,:”I want to apologize to Shakur’s family and for the mistake I did for that sucker (Jimmy Henchmen). I am trying to clean it up to give (Tupac and B.I.G.’s) mothers some closure.”
Although Tupac survived the shooting, it fueled a deadly feud that resulted in the deaths of Tupac in September 1996 and B.I.G. in March 1997.
Henchman’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, claims Isaac is a snitch and is just looking to shave some time off of his existing sentence. “It’s a flat out lie. Dexter Isaac is not claiming this 17 years later to clear his conscience. He’s doing it because he’s told anybody who will listen he doesn’t want to die in prison. He has kids and wants to work off his sentence. He can’t be trusted.”
An NYPD spokesman indicates that an investigation into AllHipHop’s report is underway, and they are planning to interview Dexter soon.
