Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook was arrested early this morning on a charge of domestic assault.

The 24-year-old NFL player was arrested at 2:10 a.m. at the 6400 block of Regency Lane. A spokesperson for Eden Prairie police said that a 911 call came in stating that they heard screaming across the street.

Cook, booked shortly after 4:00 a.m. at the Hennepin County Jail, can be held for up to 48 hours on probable cause before being charged with domestic assault strangulation. The victim, an unnamed woman, was reportedly unhurt.

The jailed Viking will appear before a judge on Monday morning. He has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the undefeated 6-0 Green Bay Packers.

A representative for the Vikings said, “We take this matter very seriously and are still gathering details of the incident. We will not have any further comment at this time.”

In March 2011 Cook was arrested for brandishing a gun during a fight with a neighbor in his home state of Virginia. A judge dropped the charges in May for lack of evidence.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier had a talk with Cook in the off-season, warning the athlete to stay out of trouble. The team is currently 1-5.
