Forbes has published the latest list of the Top 10 Overpaid Actors in Hollywood. Read that to mean, they get paid a tremendous amount of money per film and it isn’t translating into a big pay back at the box office.
To compile the list, Forbes looked at the 40 highest paid stars in Hollywood who have made at least three films in the last five years. When production budgets were divided by how much the actor earned, a return on investment was determined.
The actress who is clearly not worth her weight in gold is Drew Barrymore, who brought in a measly 40 cents for every $1 she was paid to star in films over the past few years.
Eddie Murphy did slightly better but still landed in the number two spot, bringing in $2.70 for every $1 he earns. He has a new movie in theaters this weekend. Will his comedy-action flick Tower Heist bring people flocking to plunk down the price of admission?
Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are in a virtual dead heat for third and fourth spot, bringing in $3.50 and $3.55.
Rounding out the top ten are Denzel Washington $4.25, Nicolas Cage $4.40, Adam Sandler and Vince Vaughn bringing in $5.20 for each $1 they are paid.
Spots nine and ten are currently owned by ex-spouses Tom Cruise $6.35 and Nicole Kidman $6.70.
