After nine hours of deliberation, jurors reached a verdict Monday on their second day of deliberations in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray.
Jackson family members were in the courtroom when the verdict was read. They included parents Joe Jackson, Katherine Jackson and the majority of their children.
After hearing testimony over a six week period of time, the five women and seven men decided that Dr. Murray was criminally negligent in his use of the surgical anesthetic propofol to treat Michael Jackson‘s insomnia, and administered a lethal dose of the drug on June 25, 2009.
Jurors were allowed to go home for the weekend after deliberating for seven hours on Friday. They heard from 49 witnesses during the 23 day trial, reconvening this morning and buzzed three times at 10:46 a.m. PT, signalling that they had reach a verdict in the case after two hours of additional deliberation.
The defendant never took the stand, nor did Dr. Arnold Klein, despite the fact that the dermatologist was alleged to have contributed to Jackson’s Demerol addiction. Judge Michael Pastor ruled that Klein’s testimony wouldn’t be relevant because the deceased did not have that drug in his system at the time of his death.
Conrad Murray faces up to four years in prison and the loss of his medical license. Probation and sentencing will take place on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. While awaiting this date, the convicted felon will be immediately remanded into the custody of the L.A. Sheriff’s Department with no bail.
