George Zimmerman was released from a Florida jail shortly before midnight Sunday. The neighborhood watch volunteer had been held in a correctional facility in Sanford for the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman has been fitted with a GPS monitoring device that will allowed authorities to track his location. The court further stipulated that the accused surrender his passport, possess no firearms and adhere to a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.

Last Friday the prosecutor in the case asked the judge to set bail at $1 million but His Honor dismissed that in favor of $150,000. Zimmerman was released after his family posted a $15,000 bond and was transported to an undisclosed location because of security threats.

The case has sparked intense discussion about race and gun control across the nation. Zimmerman claims the unarmed teen attacked him. Martin supporters believe the accused targeted Martin because he was black.
