The Top 4 faced off last night on American Idol with selections made famous by California artists followed by songs they wish they’d written themselves.

Listed in order of how we think they finished: Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips and the sweet British-Texan Hollie Cavanagh who didn’t bring her A-game.

Hollie had a solid performance with “Faithfully” but needed to follow that up with a blockbuster performance. Record producer Jimmy Iovine wasn’t thrilled with her Bonnie Raitt song choice “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and cautioned her, “Don’t over-sing it!” Instead he should have advised her … ‘find something better suited to your voice so you can kill it.’

After the lackluster performance Randy Jackson got real with her, “Hollie, that song gave you nowhere to go. You needed a moment.”

Joshua and Jessica could do no wrong Wednesday night with their powerful performances – check them out here.

As for Phillip Phillips … we admit that we don’t get his appeal and have continued to be shocked that he is still “in it to win it.” We find the one-trick-pony to be under-motivated and sorely lacking in communication skills. At times he looks bored with the entire process BUT he continues to have a strong following … proving we don’t know everything.

Will the fan base of eliminated contestant Skylar Laine shower Hollie with their leftover love? If not she’ll likely be shown the door.
