It was a big week for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg! He took his social networking site public and then wed his college sweetheart Priscilla Chan.

After nine years of dating, Mark and Priscilla exchanged vows in their Palo Alto backyard with 100 of their closest friends and family on hand to witness the momentous occasion.

The assembled group received invitations to help celebrate Chan’s May 14 graduation from UCSF medical school where she earned a degree in pediatrics. It wasn’t until they arrived that they discovered they were about to witness a wedding too.

Zuckerberg designed Chan’s wedding ring. While money is no object, he opted for a simple ruby sparkler.

The wedding banquet, served family style, was catered by Palo Alto Sol and Fuki Sushi. Guests were able to satisfy their sweet tooth with Burdick chocolate in the shape of whimsical mice — a nod to a confection the newlyweds shared on their first date.

The couple met while attending Harvard and long before Facebook was developed. This week’s public stock offering has elevated Zuckerberg’s net worth to $19 billion.
