It was a big day for legendary musician Bob Dylan, 71, during his decidedly high-profile White House visit on Tuesday. His Twitter page was updated with the news and a photo taken during the momentous occasion.

President Barack Obama placed the Medal of Freedom award around the icon’s neck and remarked that Dylan’s transcendent music had a considerable influence on the civil rights movement.

Most of his celebrated work dates from the 1960’s when he became the reluctant figurehead of social unrest with such hits as Blowin’ in the Wind and The Times They Are a-Changin’.

There were 13 impressive honorees yesterday including former astronaut Senator John Glenn, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former University of Tennessee women’s head basketball coach Pat Summitt.
