Kurt Busch was suspended Monday by NASCAR over remarks he made to Sporting News reporter Bob Pockrass following Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Pocono Raceway.
After witnessing Busch having post-race words with Justin Allgaier, the reporter asked Kurt, “Did it impact you on how you raced Justin, the fact that you are on probation?”
Busch shot back, “It refrains me from beating the <expletive> out of you right now, because you ask me stupid questions. But since I’m on probation, I suppose that that’s improper to say as well.”
NASCAR issued this statement on Monday, “After we reviewed the latest incident, and based upon that fact that he was on probation from a violation that occurred at Darlington last month, we were in consensus that the suspension was warranted.”
“NASCAR has suspended driver Kurt Busch until June 13 of this year and extended his NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Kurt Busch violated Section 12-1 Actions detrimental to stock car racing; violation of probation; verbal abuse to a media member.”
The racer was fined $50,000 and placed on probation May 15 for reckless driving on pit road and a post-race altercation with Ryan Newman’s crew member. That incident took place during the May 12 Sprint Cup Series event at Darlington. The probation period was set to be lifted on July 25 but has now been extended until the end of the year.
