Mark Wahlberg revealed to David Letterman last night that he never finished high school and plans to finally rectify the situation.

It turns out the 41-year-old actor dropped out in ninth grade <gasp> and deeply regrets the fact that he doesn’t have a diploma.

He has found an online program based in New Orleans and will begin the process later this month.

Wahlberg said, “It’s an actual diploma. I’ve got to take up all the courses that I missed and I’m a little nervous. They’re going to give me whatever credits I already have, which is probably like one or two. But I’m going to make it happen.”

If you are wondering how the busy actor will find time to hit the books, it turns out he has it all figured out. Mark told the ‘Late Show’ host, “I have a lot of downtime on sets in the trailer and stuff. Hopefully I can do it withing six to eight months.”

The actor wed his longtime partner, model Rhea Durham, in 2009. They have four children: Ella, 8, Michael, 6, Brendan, 3, and Grace, 2.

Check out the Letterman conversation that includes a discussion about his stint in jail at age 17 on video below. The high school diploma discussion begins at 4:00 on the slider:
