U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is not a love ’em and leave ’em kinda guy … despite what his mother told the TODAY show.

During a televised interview on Thursday, Ryan’s mom Ike Lochte talked about her son’s dating history. She said, “He goes out on one-night stands. He’s not able to give fully to a relationship because he’s always on the go.”

The soundbite went viral and both mother and son provided clarification Friday. Ike corrected, “I’m not used to this. All I wanted to say was that he’s so sensitive about not wanting to hurt a girl so he just takes a girl for maybe one or two dates and doesn’t have a relationship.”

Ryan provided his own spin as well, “I know what she meant by it. What she meant is that I’m not in a relationship so I go on dates.”

Perhaps sensitive to suggestions that he isn’t really into girls, he also hit Twitter yesterday to describe his ideal woman.

He tweeted, “She has got to make me happy and trust. Of course I wanna get married and have kids.”

Lochte won five Olympic medals during the London Games, two of them gold. Overshadowed by Michael Phelps, things didn’t go as planned.

He acknowledged, “For the most part I’m pretty satisfied. Yeah, I wanted to get all golds in my events, but you know it didn’t happen. I’m going to have to live with that and move on and learn from it, and try not to make the same mistakes at the 2016 Rio Games.”
