Russell Crowe and his Aussie pal Chris Feather launched from Cold Springs Harbor off New York’s Long Island on Saturday for an afternoon of kayaking and ended up needing U.S. Coast Guard intervention.
The actor, in the area while filming ‘Noah,’ ended up beaching at Huntington Bay in the dark, 10 miles east of where he and his partner started their trek. They were wearing life jackets and were unharmed … but they did need help to get out of their predicament.
A Coast Guard boat happened to be patrolling the area and heard the men calling for help. Officer Seth Swiecki admits, “It wasn’t really a rescue. More of just giving someone a lift.”
Crowe hit Twitter at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to give a shout out: “Thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way.”
He added, “We knew exactly where we were, paddling around from Cold Springs Harbor into wind, we ran out of day. Great adventure eh.”
He tweeted to his buddy, “@Chris_Feather Have you recovered from our Bear Grylis adventure yet? Might have been eagle eggs for breakfast! You make your own luck mate.”
