Farrah Abraham often attracts criticism for her parenting style, and with very good reason.
In fact, what Farrah does in relation to her daughter qualifies as “parenting” only by the loosest definition of the term.
Thoroughly devoted to being the cool mom, Farrah makes Amy Poehler’s character in Mean Girls look like a paragon of selfless responsibility.
Farrah has two goals in raising her 9-year-old daughter Sophia, and neither of them has anything to do with the girl’s health, happiness, or education:
She wants Sophia to grow up to be just like her, and she wants to be her daughter’s very best friend.
And sometimes, the latter objective requires Farrah to slip Sophia a massive cash bribe.
Take a look:
Besties (Getty) Sophia often travels with Farrah on work trips and joins her at age-inappropriate red carpet events.
Beats the Alternative? (Getty Images) We guess it’s better than always leaving her kid at home when she travels … but not by much.
The Problem (Getty) You see, Farrah doesn’t bring Sophia along so that the two of them can engage in some mother-daughter bonding.
Stage Mom No, her stated goal is to make Sophia internationally famous before she reaches the age of 10 — and she feels parading her on red carpets is a good way to boost the child’s visibility.
Two-Pronged Attack Of course, that’s not Farrah’s only method bolstering her daughter’s career as a professional famous person.
Insta Princess Sophia is also a staple on social media, where her age-inappropriate selfies often attract widespread criticism. Of course, Farrah is of the opinion that bad attention is better than no attention.
Building a Brand And so, Farrah assists her daughter in her efforts to direct traffic to her Instagram page. Did we mention the girl is 9 years old?
Queen of Controversy Farrah knows better than anyone that controversy is the best way to attract the internet’s attention, and that’s how we end up with Sophia rocking heavy makeup.
Just the Beginning And the thirst didn’t end there, of course. Farrah has posted pics of her daughter modeling swimsuits, and she’s even talked openly about Sophia’s future sex tape.
A New Low Did we mention the time that Farrah encouraged her daughter to prank a friend by telling her dog died? Shortly thereafter Sophia’s dog actually died, and Farrah taped her reaction and posted it on social media. This is real life, folks.
Drawing the Line Sophia has been banned by several social media platforms, such as when she was kicked off Snapchat for chatting with strangers late at night — at the age of 8.
Still Going on the ‘Gram Sophia is still allowed on Instagram, which is how we wind up with scenarios like the Tooth Fairy fiasco.
Big Bucks Sophia posted the above photo this week, along with a caption reading, “Just woke up at 4:30 AM!!! The tooth fairy came with my favorite roses, and A LOT of money I can’t believe my eyes!
Farrah Fairy (MTV) Naturally, she tagged the person responsible for this publicity stunt, Farrah Abraham.
Controversy Ensues (Getty) As Farrah likely expected, many of her followers were not thrilled with the idea of giving a 9-year-old a huge stack of cash just for losing a tooth.
Not Holding Back “SPOILED BRAT at its finest!!!” wrote one angry fan. “Farrah’s bragging is disgusting. Get over yourself we all knew what you had to do to get that money,” another echoed.
Even 5 Is Kind of a Lot “What happened to giving $5 for a tooth? I’m sure she would have been just as happy with that. Or even just the roses. Not the wad of cash,” a third wrote.
Farrah Defenders Of course, you can find every kind of bonkers opinion on the internet, which means some people actually had Farrah’s back.
She’s Got a Point “It’s Farrah’s money if she wants to spoil her damn kid then she can she doesn’t have to ask for permission,” said one.
She’s Missing the Point “Y’all, she’s a child. Be nice,” wrote another. Although we’re pretty sure it’s Farrah people are ragging on here, not Sophia.
Hoping For the Best Obviously, we haven’t seen the last of Sophia on social media. Here’s hoping the kid has time to occasionally crack a book so that she doesn’t end up exactly like her mom.
