Plenty of celebrities broke up in 2015, as they do every year.
But this year … this was a year that produced some truly noteworthy splits. For a time, it was like you couldn’t go a week without one.
Heck, it wasn’t even like that, it was that. It was incredible.
Some couples were more high-profile than others, of course, and some romances felt destined to last forever while others … did not.
But man alive, this year was a doozy. Let’s take a look back …
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced they were divorcing nearly 10 years after they got married. Rumors of their split have surfaced for months and were eventually confirmed … along with a firestorm of rumors that Ben slept with family nanny Christine Ounouzian.
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert

This one was pretty epic. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert broke up after four years of marriage – and their divorce was already final by the time they announced it. Short and sweet, right? Wrong. Myriad cheating allegations and no small amount of bitterness followed, along with his abrupt rebound romance with …
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were married for 13 years before parting ways in August 2015. Almost immediately, she took up with Blake Shelton while Gavin, like Ben Affleck, was linked to the nanny. Note to female celebrities: Don’t hire attractive 25-year-old nannies. Or just divorce these a– hats now if you’re particularly worried about this.
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards

So much for this sweet kiss. Zayn broke Perrie’s heart and called off their engaged in July … right around the time he broke up with One Direction no less. He’s since moved on with Gigi Hadid. Will he upgrade musically as well? (Sorry Perrie.)
Big Sean and Ariana Grande

We admit being a little sad about this one. The public declarations of love after their friendship led to so much more from mid-2014 to mid-2015 gave us real hope for these two … but the breakup was swift and a little contentious. Gotta “Focus” on careers? We’re not buying it.
Karrueche Tran and Chris Brown

Yes, they split up before, but it looks like this one is for good. That’s what happens when you’re revealed to be the father of a nine-month old, unbeknownst to your “bae.” Vintage Chris Brown.
Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith

Ditto this one. After many near-misses, Teen Mom 2 tandem Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith have broken up for good … after two years, one child and about 300 fights.
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink

Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian called it quits right around the time he got the chop from Grey’s Anatomy. Both were shocking to fans. Midlife crisis much?
Britney Spears and Charlie Ebersol

The couple unexpectedly called it quits after eight months of dating. It’s like we barely got to know Charlie and his sketchy ways. Don’t ask us why, but he seemed like he was always putting on a front or up to no good.
Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert

Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert had been through the wringer multiple times over the course of their tumultuous marriage, but it is over for good in 2015. The divorce papers have been filed and finalized. She’s now at two ex-husbands before age 25.
Josiah Duggar and Marjorie Jackson

Duggar breakups are so rare – even Anna Duggar hasn’t booted Josh to the curb, for crying out loud – that the end of the courtship of Josiah Duggar and Marjorie Jackson was truly noteworthy. And likely caused indirectly by Josh come to think of it.
Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff

Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff from The Bachelor got engaged on the show’s season finale in March 2015 … and broke up by the end of May, if not earlier than that. Pretty standard for The Bachelor.
Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray

Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray of The Bachelorette broke up just as the new season of The Bachelor got underway in January 2015. They were together only about six months, and darned if we didn’t think they’d actually make it to the altar.
Bobby Flay and Stephanie March

Bobby Flay and Stephanie March were not the highest-profile couple to split this year, but the end of their marriage may have been the ugliest of the past 12 months.
Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt

One of the more low-key celebrity couples out there, Hamm and Westfeldt called it quits after 18 years of dating. EIGHTEEN years.
Katy Perry and John Mayer

Katy Perry and John Mayer split up again. No shedding tears over this one.
Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn

Vonn announced on Facebook that she and Woods had called it quits after nearly three years of dating. Good news for Tiger – there was no Rachel Uchitel involved and no scorned partner wielding a golf club at his car.
Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger

Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger had a strong run. Stronger than many believed possible, in fact. But it was still destined to unravel at some point and it did.
Sean Penn and Charlize Theron

We were sort of surprised Sean Penn and Charlize Theron dated in the first place.
Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams

Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams nearly made it six years as husband and wife. They sadly split in January of 2015 and vowed never to discuss it, ever. So that’s the end of the gossip apparently.
Olivia Culpo and Nick Jonas

Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and Nick Jonas called it quits. They broke up after about a year and a half together.
Patti Stanger and David Krause

The Millionaire Matchmaker called off her engagement after three years, which is actually much better than 95% of the relationships seen on her ridicuylous Bravo show.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield

People had surprisingly strong opinions on Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield breaking up. Which was pretty sad, don’t get us wrong.
Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long

Not a lot of people have strong opinions on Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long, but we still feel bad for them.
Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid

Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid called it quits after an 18-month engagement. If that leads us to Court getting together with Matthew Perry after all these years, fans would probably take it though.
