MTV admits to crap-tastic Live 8 coverage

» More MTV

Most of you were probably among the supposed 3 billion television viewers of the Live 8 concerts. And if you watched the coverage on MTV, you were also probably among those harshly turned off by their programming. Not that you don’t just love watching La La and Damien pretend to give a shit.

MTV’s handling of the concerts ??? staged in London, Philadelphia and eight other cities ??? was faulted for frequent cutaways from key musical moments to go to commercials, offstage banter or less compelling performances elsewhere.

“Knowing what I know now, I probably would have made the decision to go commercial-free,” Toffler said.

Unfortunately for MTV, its performance also was juxtaposed with a widely praised showing by AOL, which offered comprehensive coverage on its music website, AOL Music.

And when AOL bests you, you know your shit stink like a fat Tobey Maguire. Funny too that just five days after the concerts, there’s not a single mention on MTV’s homepage about Live 8 or any available footage. AOLMusic.com, meanwhile, stil can’t get enough.
