Media Blitz: CBS terminates four for Memogate
» More Media
J It’s not just print media unable to meet its rate base. Now NBC is offering $50 million in make goods for not hitting its guaranteed numbers, which could end up costing $200 million by the end of the year.
J CBS is “ousting” (the network’s own word) four employees, including three execs, for their part in Memogate. Gone are senior VP Betsy West (supervisor of CBS News primetime programs), 60 Minutes Wednesday exec producer Josh Howard, senior broadcast producer Mary Murphy (Howard’s deputy). And of course, trying-to-save-herself Mary Mapes, who produced the segment, has been “terminated.”
J The Weather Channel is facing a lawsuit from 40-year-old former anchor Marny Stanier Midkiff, who says she got the boot in 2003 as part of an organized restructuring of the channel to make room for younger and sexier on-air talent. Or maybe viewers were just really that tired of seeing her wrinkly hands point toward a green screen.
