Promoted as a frank, lively conversation among women who are just like you, The Talk debuted on CBS Monday afternoon. The daily show will have six co-hosts and appears to be the networks answer to the ABC morning mainstay The View.

Dare we suggest that the new kids on the block will have their work cut out for them if they want to outdo the ladies on The View — case in point, the Bill O’Reilly fiasco?

Julie Chen is tasked with keeping Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini, Sara Gilbert and Marissa Jaret Winokur on track.

It should be noted that Chen’s husband, Leslie Moonves, is the President of CBS. Moonves indicated that if the show doesn’t do well he will cancel it. His wife threatened: “Two can play that game, baby.”

The guest on day-one was Christie Brinkley, who chatted about her nasty divorce briefly and had some interesting things to say about her daughter Alexa Ray Joel. She lamented the fact that the media has been particularly harsh about her first born “because she doesn’t look like me.” Sharon Osbourne filled in a pregnant pause by reassuring the guest that her daughter is gorgeous – nonetheless.

The group discussed the ‘sex talk debate’. The most amusing aspect of Monday’s show had co-host Marissa Jaret Winokur doing a ‘mom on the street’ segment to find out when people sit their kids down to have the ‘sex talk’ – check it out after the jump.

The half-dozen co-hosts are celebrities in their own right, removing any thought that the show will be a daily discussion with six women who are just like the rest of us — despite the show hype to the contrary. The show will be filmed in L.A., giving the women easy access to Hollywood A-listers to fill out their daily guest slots. Their competition films in Manhattan. Let the games begin…
