Ron Franklin has been fired after 20 plus years with ESPN for sexist comments he made last Friday referencing sideline reporter, Jeannine Edwards.
ESPN issued a statement today, saying that “based on what occurred last Friday, we have ended our relationship with (Franklin).”
Franklin issued a public apology Monday for calling Edwards “sweet baby,” and then calling her an “a**hole” when she was offended by the remark.
Franklin and Edwards were in a production meeting prior to the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve when the incident occurred. The network was informed immediately, and tried to pull Franklin from the bowl game broadcast. His suspension took place the following day, prior to his scheduled Fiesta Bowl broadcast. He was fired on Tuesday.
