Roger Ebert has a new face …
Movie critic Roger Ebert has reason to celebrate and he took to his blog to share the good news in a post titled Leading With My Chin. Two years after undergoing disfiguring jaw cancer surgery, he has been fitted with a prosthetic device that has changed his appearance.
Ebert, whose show Ebert Presents at the Movies premiered Friday night, was quick to say that his new face wasn’t intended to fool anyone. “It will be used in a medium shot of me working in my office, and will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for so long.”
The 64-year-old is comfortable with how he looks but is still very pleased with the soft silicone material that looks very realistic. It took two years of development to arrive at a device that was comfortable and allowed him to move his head and neck in a natural manner. Early attempts were crafted from a stiffer material that made normal movements difficult.
Dr. Reisberg was instrumental in developing the prosthesis. He can be seen in a gallery shot holding the finished product. We give his efforts “two thumbs up” – check out before and after photos below:
