Actress Ricki Lake lost her Malibu rental home early Saturday morning after it burned to the ground. Lake, her two sons and their dog were able to get out of the home without injuries.
Ricki was refueling a portable heater when she accidentally set her couch on fire. The flames quickly spread throughout the home. By the time the fire department arrived at the Pacific Coast Highway residence just west of Topanga Beach, it was too late to save the structure.
According to deputies with the Malibu Sheriff’s Station, Lake and her sons were standing outside when the fire department arrived. Flames shot 30 feet into the air as the attic and roof burned. Power tools had to be used to cut into gates of adjacent houses to protect them.
The fire was extinguished by 7:30 a.m. after a 20 minute effort by the fire crew.
The television personality, famous for losing 140 pounds, is currently staying with friends. Her rep said, “Lake lost many personal items, but is grateful that everyone is OK.”
