CNN has fired television commentator Rick Sanchez for controversial comments that he made during a radio show on Thursday.
The host of Rick’s List and contributor to Anderson Cooper 360 appeared on Stand Up! With Pete Dominick yesterday and called out Jon Stewart as a “bigot” for mocking him. He asserted that Jews — like Stewart — don’t face discrimination. He also suggested that the media in general and CNN in particular are controlled by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself.
Sanchez, who joined CNN in 2004, vented on the subject for roughly 20 minutes, insisting that as a Cuban-American, he has always been considered “second-tier”.
In very short order, Rick’s employer CNN put out a terse statement: “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”
Replacing Rick’s List during the 3 to 5 p.m. time slot will be CNN Newsroom.
