Tragedy has struck in Johannesburg, South Africa. The body of a new-born baby was found on the grounds of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls on Wednesday.

Police have determined that a 17-year-old gave birth to the infant and then concealed the baby in a plastic bag that was later found on the school grounds.

The student was taken to Midvaal Hospital in Meyerton. According to local police Captain Shado Mashobane, an investigation is underway to determine whether the baby was murdered or died of natural causes.

Oprah opened the school in 2007 in order to “nurture, educate and turn gifted South African girls from impoverished backgrounds into the country’s future leaders.”

A rep for Winfrey declined to comment because a minor is involved.
