Dwyane Wade seems like he has it all, a hot girlfriend, Gabrielle Union, an amazing career, and two wonderful children, but his personal life appears to be in turmoil. The Miami Heat player is not only in the middle of a divorce with estranged wife Siohvaughn Wade, but is in a custody battle as well. The NBA star has asked for sole custody of his children, claiming their mother is completely unfit. Wade claims his wife has been unfaithful, violent, and does not allow him to see his children.
In a statement released to the AP, Wade stated, “For more than two years, I have tried to make peace with Siohvaughn concerning our divorce and custody of our kids, I no longer believe that’s possible. Siohvaughn has consistently attempted to interrupt or prevent me from having visitation time with our boys.”
“Her behavior has made it evident that she is unstable, dishonest, unbalanced, unwilling to accept responsibility for her actions, not of good character, and therefore, unfit to be a custodial parent.”
“I’m sorry to say that many of the things she has done during our marriage and throughout this divorce have convinced me that it is not in our children’s best interest that she have custody, as a result, I have decided to fight for custody of our children. I feel our children’s health and safety are at stake. Our two children are my top priority.”
Proving his children are his priority, Wade is considering opting out of playing in the world championships this summer with the U.S. Men’s National Team in order to focus on the custody battle.
Since their separation in 2007, there has been constant drama, accusations on both sides, and even a defamation lawsuit. The couple are expected to battle it out in court on June 7th.
