Ten-year-old Jackie Evancho from Pittsburgh received a standing ovation last night on America’s Got Talent. The young classical phenom performed O Mio Babbino Caro by Giacomo Puccini.
She began her singing career at age eight and trains with a voice coach. Her style has been described as “classical crossover”, and she has been compared to Hayley Westenra and Sarah Brightman. In her spare time she plays the violin and the piano.
Evancho was given an opportunity to compete in front of the judges Tuesday because of a YouTube video submission. She was awarded a trip to Universal Studios in Florida for receiving the most fan votes.
If you were thinking the youngster is just another kid on the block back home, you would be mistaken. She released her debut album Prelude to a Dream on November 1, 2009. She will be singing at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 2, 2010, as the youngest female vocal soloist ever to have performed there.
And the winner is…. 2010 America’s Got Talent finale results here.
