Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Dario Franchitti and his wife Ashley Judd kissed the bricks after he won the Indy 500 on May 30, 2010. He drove a flawless race to capture his second Indy victory — his first was in a shortened 166 lap race in 2007.
Country singer Judd removed her high heeled shoes to race barefoot down the infield track to congratulate her husband and the rest of his team.
The veteran driver crossed the finish line at the Brickyard with only one-tenth of a gallon of fuel remaining in the tank. After winning the 94th running, Franchitti said, ” The milk tastes just as good the second time around here.”
The race ended with a crash between Ryan Hunter-Reay and Mike Conway in between turns 3 and 4 on the final lap. Conway’s car went airborne and ripped into the fence before landing upside down. Danica Patrick went right under his car as it was aloft, allowing her to finish in 6th.
Dan Wheldon finished second for Panther Racing, Marco Andretti third, Alex Lloyd fourth, Scott Dixon was fifth.
Patrick, who was booed after qualifying last weekend and started 23rd, said: “I knew the strength of the team would be in the race. I had faith in that. The pit stops were great. It was a little tough to pass but between pit stops and strategy it was a great race. I hope Mike Conway is not hurt. That could just as easily be me one of these times.”
