Punk rock band Green Day posted a message to fans following the stage meltdown of lead guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at MGM Grand in Las Vegas over the weekend.

The band’s website prominently features this new announcement: “Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was NOT cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.” Vegas tirade video here.

Green Day’s message continued, “We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”

This comes at a bad time for the group who will be releasing their ninth studio album, ‘Uno,’ on Tuesday. They plan to release ‘Dos’ and ‘Tre’ as part of a trilogy series between Sept. 2012 and Jan. 2013.

Armstrong, 40, was rushed to a hospital in Italy three weeks ago and released two days later for what was described as gastric problems.

Developing story…
