GERARD “GERRY” RYAN 1956-2010

Veteran Irish broadcaster Gerard “Gerry” Ryan was found dead in his Dublin apartment on April 30, 2010. Police are investigating but do not suspect foul play. He was 53.

Ryan was found dead in the bedroom of his Ballsbridge apartment. The alarm was raised when he failed to show up for his daily radio show. The Irish Times is reporting that a doctor arrived at about 3:00 p.m. and left within 20 minutes. An undertakers’ ambulance arrived shortly after 3:45 p.m. At 4:15 p.m., Ryan’s body was removed through the basement doorway and placed in an ambulance, which left the scene accompanied by an unmarked police car.

The radio and television personality was employed by RTE and presented The Gerry Ryan Show on radio station RTE 2 FM each weekday morning from 1988 until his death. He was one of RTE’s most popular broadcasters, earning a reported $1 million a year. Other programs that Ryan presented included Ryan Confidential, Gerry Ryan Tonight, Ryantown, Gerry Ryan’s Hitlist and Operation Transformation.

He separated from his wife Morah Ryan in March 2008. Their marriage of 26-years produced five children: Lottie, Rex, Bonnie, Elliot and Babette.
