American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized for a drug overdose on Monday. The Charlotte-Mechlenburg Police Department responded to a 911 call that came in at 8:43 p.m. from the North Carolina residence of the singer.
An individual at the residence told the emergency dispatcher: “An individual took a bottle of aspirin and she’s slowly losing consciousness. She is in the shower. The family tried to put her in the shower to try to keep her awake.”
The dispatcher, clearly not impressed with their resourcefulness, instructed them to get her out of the shower immediately and turn off the water.
Barrino was transported to Mercy South Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville for what police has categorized as a suicide attempt.
