Marking the thirty-fifth anniversary of Elvis Presley‘s death, thousands of fans gathered at Graceland to honor the legend during a candlelight vigil.

On hand for the milestone occasion were his former wife Priscilla Presley and his only daughter Lisa Marie Presley.

Lisa Marie spoke to the crowd, “I’ve always avoided this because I felt that it would be too emotional. But I really felt it was important to come down here tonight. I love you very, very, very much.”

Her mother added, “You should see this from our point of view. It’s amazing. It’s truly a sight to behold.”

At the end of the vigil many fans left flowers at his gravesite located on the property near the swimming pool.

The younger Presley talked about the event this morning on the TODAY show, “I’m always really happy when I’m here. It always reminds me of when I was happiest in my life. It always brings me right there.”

It is estimated that 75,000 people visited the Memphis estate this week. He purchased Graceland in 1957 and died there at the age of 42 of a heart attack on August 16, 1977. A coroners report indicated drugs were a contributing factor.
