Kimberly Buffington-Quaid has filed legal documents asking the court to grant her a legal separation from her actor husband Dennis Quaid.

A rep issued this statement: “Kimberly and Dennis Quaid have decided to legally separate after 8 years of marriage. They ask that their privacy and the privacy of their family be respected during this difficult time.”

The former real estate agent initially filed a divorce action in March 2012, claiming the couple’s union had “become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.” Six weeks later she backpedaled and temporarily put the court action on hold in order to try to work through their marital woes.

Quaid’s wife is seeking primary custody of their 4-year-old twins, Thomas and Zoe Grace, with visitation rights for the actor.

The ‘Far From Heaven’ celeb has an adult son Jack, 20, born during his union with actress Meg Ryan.
