Canadian born actor Dean McDermott was sworn in as an American citizen in a Los Angeles ceremony on Friday. The Toronto born reality star called the moment when he and 3,000 others pledged allegiance beneath a giant American flag “amazing”, and something he will never forget.
The 43-year-old husband of actress Tori Spelling said: “I was so proud and overwhelmed all at the same time. I’m proud to be an American.”
So how did the couple celebrate the momentous occasion? Tori shared: “I’m so proud that I was able to be by Dean’s side…He’s wanted this for so long. We stopped for lunch afterward at Taco Bell and he said ‘This is my 1st taco as an American citizen!’ So cute!”
In July McDermott suffered a collapsed lung as a result of a motorcycle accident.
The couple, who have been married four years and have two young children, star in the reality show Home Sweet Hollywood. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the citizenship ceremony appearing on a future show.
