Jewel Blogs About Preventing Gun Violence
Jewel is speaking openly about gun violence and discusses how she and husband Ty Murray plan on teach their 1-year-old son Kase to deal with anger.
The entertainer published a short post on the 1simplechange website:
"There are different types of gun violence: self-defense, rampage killing and violence solving problems with anger. As far as anger shootings, I feel that learning how to problem solve and learning emotional skills is critical. I think it isn’t something we’re always taught within our family units."
"I hope to help teach my son to deal with frustration, and learn how to problem-solve in healthy ways, so that by the time he’s older and not under my wing, he will have some skills. Then when he gets frustrated or when something arises that is confusing for him, he’ll find ways of problem-solving and working through it."
1simplechange is an online initiative started by Time Inc. magazines All You, Essence, Health and Real Simple after the horrific shootings in Newtown, Connecticut last December.
The project encourages people to make 'one simple change' that will help keep America's children safe from harms way.
