Conor Kennedy, 18-year-old ex-boyfriend of country singer Taylor Swift, was hauled away to jail and charged with civil disobedience Wednesday during a protest rally staged in Washington D.C.

The teen was among a group of 48 environmental activists assembled in front of the White House for a climate change rally targeting the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.  He was arrested along with his father Robert F. Kennedy Jr., president of Waterkeeper Alliance, and actress Daryl Hannah.

RFK Jr. said in an email statement:  "It's unfortunate that civil disobedience is the only recourse against a catastrophic and criminal enterprise that will enrich a few while impoverishing the rest of humanity and threatening the future of civilization."

They were charged and released on $100 bond.  The senior Kennedy tweeted a series of photos, one of them captioned, "Handcuffed to White House gate in act of civil disobedience for climate change."  Later he added, "Everyone is out of jail after protest!"
