Jon Bon Jovi's Daughter: D.A. Drops Drug Charges

A New York prosecutor has dropped drug charges against Stephanie Bongiovi, the 19-year-old daughter of iconic rocker Jon Bon Jovi.

If you are thinking this new turn of events was the result of celebrity justice ... you would be wrong.

The college student overdosed on heroin Wednesday and was discovered unresponsive in her Hamilton College dorm.  She was initially arrested for possession of a small amount of heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Yesterday Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara dismissed the charges against Bon Jovi's teenage daughter and her boyfriend, citing the Good Samaritan 911 law enacted in July 2011 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The new state legislation was intended to reduce overdose deaths by encouraging people to call 911 without fear of being arrested for drug possession.

Bon Jovi, 50, is well known for his philanthropy.  He is scheduled to perform a concert to raise funds for Hamilton College scholarships and arts programs in Times Square on Dec. 5.

The singer and his wife have four children, Stephanie and three sons.
