Award-winning actress Elisabeth Shue will join the cast of the popular Vegas-based CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

CBS announced that her new character will debut on the hit television series beginning February 15, 2012.  The plot premise is that she previous worked in Seattle with D.B. Russel, played by Ted Danson.

Shue, 48, will be filling a gap left by Marg Helgenberger, 53, who will be exiting the show after playing Catherine Willows for eleven seasons.

Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn released a statement, "While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a beloved character like Catherine Willows, it's exciting to start a journey with a new CSI, especially when that character is played by Elisabeth Shue.  The new CSI also struggles with 'brutal honesty issues' and suffers no fools."

Elisabeth was nominated for a best-actress Oscar for her role in Leaving Las Vegas.  Other notable film projects include Adventures in Babysitting and The Karate Kid.
