Oops …
The singing of the national anthem at national sporting events is a time honored tradition. Chosen to perform those duties for Super Bowl XLV was songstress Christina Aguilera — who offered up a less than perfect rendition.
The five-time Grammy winner messed up the fourth line with: “Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, what so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”
What she meant to warble: “Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.”
She issued a statement afterward: “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and the true spirit of its anthem came through.”
