Lindsay Lohan checked out of the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California early Friday morning in order to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court before Judge Elden Fox at 8:30 a.m. PT.

The last time Lilo faced His Honor, she was promptly hauled off to jail for what Judge Fox thought would be a month long stay. Later that same night, Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley was able to get another judge to modify the order and Lohan was released.

The troubled actress checked into rehab on September 28, where she has been undergoing treatment for cocaine addiction.

Lindsay and her legal eagle walked into the courtroom at 8:10 a.m. PT. The celeb had swollen eyes and looked like she had been crying.

The good news for Lohan is that she will be heading back to Betty Ford. The judge has ordered her to remain in rehab until January 3, 2011, indicating that he wanted her to stay past New Year’s, undoubtedly to remove the temptations that might crop up over the Holiday season.

Prior to the hearing, Judge Fox received a written report from medical personnel at Betty Ford, and a letter from Lindsay. During the hearing Fox said: “You are an addict, I hope you understand that. I don’t want another train wreck.”

Lindsay cried after the judge ruled and thanked him for opting for a return to rehab over jail. She was flanked by employees of Betty Ford Center as she left the courthouse shortly before 10:00 a.m. PT. Her next court appearance is scheduled for February 25, 2011.

In the courtroom for the hearing was her mother Dina Lohan, as well as Lindsay’s estranged father Michael Lohan.
