Michael Douglas appeared on CBS Late Show with David Letterman Monday. He shocked his show host and the audience by acknowledging that a biopsy of his cancer revealed it is in the most advanced stage and is potentially deadly.
David Letterman asked the 65-year-old Wall Street actor if Stage IV was a good diagnosis. Douglas replied: “Um no. You like to be at Stage 1…but it was not. The big thing you’re always worried about… is it spreading.”
Stage IV cancer, the worst prognosis, has spread beyond the original tumor and is very difficult to cure. Douglas said he has an 80 percent chance of recovery.
Douglas is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. They have a son Dylan, and a daughter Carys – see family photos.
