The marriage between Tiger and Elin Nordegren Woods is officially dissolved. They were in a Panama City, Florida courtroom Monday to finalize the divorce and end the final chapter in the mistress scandal that rocked their world nine months ago.
According to sources inside the courtroom, Tiger and Elin were flanked by their legal teams and did not speak to each other.
The following statement regarding their divorce was released following the final decree: “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.”
It continued: “Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”
A prenuptial agreement will ensure that Nordegren receives a $100 million settlement. Those details were finalized at the beginning of July according to court documents. She was also granted a request to take back her maiden name and is officially Elin Maria Pernilla Nordegren once again.
Court documents indicate the couple wed on October 5, 2004. The nearly 6-year union was characterized as “irretrievably broken”. Read full judgment here.
The huge settlement is actually the second one that Elin has received while married to Tiger. She won a large lawsuit over nude photos that hit the internet years ago.
Tiger and Elin will share custody of their children, Sam Alexis, 3, and Charlie Axel, 1.
