Norma Lopez Missing and Presumed Kidnapped

Police continue their search for 17-year-old Norma Lopez, who may have been abducted Thursday July 15, 2010 on her way home from a summer school class at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley.

The 5’7″, 110 pound teen has brown eyes, brown shoulder length hair, and was last seen wearing a black and white horizontal stripped, sleeveless shirt, with a floral pattern and black ‘skinny’ jeans with black shoes.

Norma’s class ended at 10:00 a.m. and her friends became alarmed when they hadn’t heard from her by noon. The young woman was supposed to meet her sister Sonja Lopez and a friend at a home on Cottonwood after her summer school class ended. When she did not arrive, they grew increasingly alarmed and began searching for hours before calling in the Riverside County Sheriff for assistance.

Personal items belonging to the teen were discovered along a shortcut in a field that Norma often used to go back and forth between home and school. Signs of a struggle were also evident.

Police are looking for a newer-model green SUV that was seen speeding away from the area in the time frame when the girl would have been traveling in that area.

Sgt. Joe Borja stated during a press conference that they do not believe that the teen was experiencing any problems in her home life: “We do not believe she’s a runaway. If we did believe that, we wouldn’t be here today. If Norma’s out there we’re looking for you. If you haven’t been taken, please call. We’re worried about you.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff’s dispatch center at (951) 776-1099, or a tip line at (877) 242-4345.

July 21, 2010 UPDATE — the body of Norma Lopez has been found.
