Yeardley Love 1987-2010
The funeral for slain University of Virginia senior Yeardley Love was held on Saturday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in North Baltimore. More than 2,000 mourners gathered to bid farewell to the 22-year-old who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend George Huguely on Monday.
Somber friends from the university were brought in on two buses to join relatives and friends who gathered to pay tribute to Love. Members of her varsity lacrosse team led a procession into the church at the start of the mass.
The funeral service was 90 minutes and the program featured an essay that Love wrote during her freshman year at Notre Dame Preparatory School. She wrote:
“If I had to wish for three things in my life, they would be to go to the University of Virginia for college, have a happy and healthy family when I grow up, and to always keep in touch and stay close with my family. So far my life has been filled with joy and happiness, and I hope to keep living my life that way.”
Yeardley is survived by her mother Sharon Donnelly and an older sister Lexie. Her father is deceased. A private burial followed the service.
