Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi Announce Wedding Plans (Video)
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres taped Friday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday. It was the same day that California's Supreme Court struck down a California law banning gay marriage. On Friday morning's show Ellen announced her intention to marry partner Portia de Rossi.
Loose lips may sink ships but audience members apparently let slip the fact that a big announcement was to be a part of Friday's show. Portia, 35, was in the studio and she and Ellen, 50, received huge applause when Ellen declared their intentions. On Friday's show Ellen said:
I would like to say for the first time, I am announcing that I am getting married. We're very, very excited. Forgive me for getting emotional. If I'm getting this emotional now, I can't imagine what it will be like when we get married."
The court ruling means same-sex couples could tie the knot in as little as a month so it could be a June celebration for the celebrity couple. Those interested in taking advantage of the landmark decision should not dally because religious and social conservatives are seeking to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot in November that would undo the Supreme Court ruling and ban gay marriage.
DeGeneres and the glamorous de Rossi of Ally McBeal and Nip/Tuck fame have been a familiar couple at Hollywood events. Previously, DeGeneres had a high-profile relationship with actress Anne Heche, who reportedly has hit a bad patch and is in financial trouble.
