Theo Campbell, best known for his time as a contestant on Love Island UK and The Challenge, shared a shocking and very painful personal story this week.
On Tuesday, the veteran reality star opened up about an accident that left him blind in one eye.
And the cause of this new handicap has caused Campbell to go viral.
On both his Instagram page and also that of girlfriend Kaz Crossley, we learned that Theo was hit in the face with a champagne cork.
He's trying to remain in positive spirits about what transpired, and he's aware that some folks out there may find the whole thing hilarious -- but this is actually serious business.
As you can tell by the photo below.
"Thanks for all the messages and support I've got over the last couple days they're all very much appreciated," Campbell wrote, alongside an image of him with a patch over his eye in a hospital bed.
"So yeah basically 2 eye surgeries later after a really unfortunate accident, I've lost all vision in my right eye as it got split in half, who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me.."
Campbell, who appeared on "War of the Worlds" and will star on the upcoming "War of the Worlds 2," continued as follows:
"I still have 1 eye left, looking at the bright side of things. Thanks for flying out to look after me as well babe if anyone knows where sells cool eye patches let me know."
Then, proving that his sense of humpr is intact, Campbell references other famous figures with only one eye, adding the hashtags #captinhook, #thor and #fettywap.
For her part, meanwhile, Crossley posted a more straightforward and explanatory message online.
“It’s been a hard 24 hours no one here speaks English and [Theo] was taken for hours at one point and I had no clue he was in surgery again,” she posted, along with a hospital selfie of herself and Theo.
“I’ve stayed in his room overnight and just wanna take him home.
"He’s so brave and positive hopefully it will get better thanks for your kind messages."
"I hope this will make people aware of the dangers at these parties and to be more careful."
On Wednesday morning, Campbell took to Twitter to say he got seven stitches in his eye and added doctors told him "it's unlikely I'll see properly again," writing:
"They done a good job saving it as they said I might loose my whole eye to begin with. But Im hopeful and don’t want to believe my eye is gone forever. Anything is possible."
As for what happened, exactly?
Crossley says the following:
"Champagne got in Theo's eye, he took his glasses off and he put his head down and there was basically someone that popped a champagne bottle directly under his face.
"Unfortunately, the cork went literally right in his eye."
Campbell's Instagram comments section has been flooded with well wishes from fellow Challenge and Love Island alums, including Johnny Bananas, Paul Calafiore and Wes Bergmann.
He has a long road to go, but the support of those who love him.
"He's been here since Sunday and we just saw the doctors again and they said he will be at least another two days, we need to wait for the antibiotics to work," Crossley added.
"It was really serious. When it happened, the eye was basically opened and it was like a big gash down the middle, which is why he had to go to surgery, he had to get stitches."
We wish Theo Campbell the best in his recovery.
