For months now, we've been following the sad saga of Hayden Panettiere, and we regret to report that it looks as though the former Nashville actress is stuck in an increasingly dangerous situation.
Panettiere is dating Brian Hickerson, a failed actor who's prone to violent outbursts and lengthy benders.
(It's not entirely clear if those two tendencies are linked, but it certainly seems like a safe bet.)
As far as anyone can tell, Hayden and Brian have been dating for less than a year, but in that short time, he's had numerous brushes with the law, most of them related to his infamously short temper.
Earlier this year, Hickerson was arrested for assaulting his elderly father.
In May, he was arrested for a domestic violence incident that was later revealed to have involved Panettiere.
Both parties seem to be making an effort to keep Hickerson's violent outbursts out of the tabloids (Sadly, despite all of these episodes, it seems Hayden is still dating Brian.), but police records continue to tell the story of a very unstable man and a young woman caught in a frightening situation.
On Wednesday, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge determined that Hickerson should stand trial on felony charges in connection with the May incident involving Hayden.
Hickerson is currently free on $50,000 bail and will appear in court to stand trial at the end of July.
All of the details regarding Hickerson's alleged assaults have been truly appalling, and court documents obtained by Radar Online this week reveal more of the same:
“He hit her on the face, causing her to get dizzy,” the documents read.
LAPD officer Amber Findley responded to noise complaints from Hayden's neighbors on May 2.
She testified in court this week and revealed that as she approached the home, she heard a female voice, shouting, “Ow, ow, ow! You’re hurting me!”
This aligns with earlier testimony in which several neighbors claimed to have heard a female voice crying out in pain.
“I think the reason why he didn’t want to tell us [Hayden] was inside was she was a celebrity,” Findley said in court.
“Right off the bat, I noticed that she had bruising on her eyelids, a swollen face," the officer continued.
"She did have marks on her neck, the left side. When I continued to talk to her she removed the sweater that she had on. I saw bruising on both her arms.”
Findley told the court that Hickerson initially claimed he was alone in the house, and the voice neighbors heard had come from the TV.
Upon examining Panettiere, however, she determined that several violent incidents had occurred in the span of just two days.
“The third time, he caused her nose to bleed,” Findley testified.
“The continued to argue within the residence, and one point the victim went upstairs to the master bedroom to go to sleep. The defendant got on top of her and with hands grabbed her on the left and right side of her face," she continued.
"The victim described the altercation as they began to grapple. He was on top of her and grabbed her face, I believe by the hair," Findley told the court.
"They began to grapple and then she extended her arm outwards to gain distance.”
Hickerson has been ordered to stay away from Panettiere, but it appears as though the two are still dating.
Despite public pleas from family, friends, and fans, Hayden seems unconvinced that Hickerson presents a serious threat to her health and well-being.
The two of them were spotted strolling hand-in-hand in Los Angeles just last week.
We'll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
