John-David Duggar, the second oldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, has apparently come out of the closet.
No, not like that.
Last summer, though, The Hollywood Gossip EXCLUSIVELY reported that John-David was involved in a secret courtship.
Now, this Counting On cast member has gone public with a verified courtship, confirming the news himself to Us Weekly.
John David has taken this very, very serious step toward marriage with a lovely lady by the name of Abbie Grace Burnett.
“Abbie and I are just so excited, we’ve known of each other for several years,” the 28-year-old told the aforementioned tabloid.
Duggar added that he and Burnett "fell in love very quickly and it’s been a wonderful journey thus far."
This exciting piece of news comes about two years after Jinger Duggar sort of claimed that her brother was involved with a woman.
Between that and our exclusive, questions about John-David's love life have been circulating across the Internet for some time now.
Dude is 28 years old after all.
That's like retirement age when it comes to the Duggars and their usual timeline of courting, marrying and then having many babies.
He's fallen way behind already! But at the same time, this comes as little surprise to anyone familiar with John David.
Long considered the most reserved of almost all Duggars, he's also perhaps the one least interested in the spotlight.
John David is the twin brother of fan favorite Jana Duggar, who's also remained single as her sisters have courted.
Yet you probably know even less about John David than you do about Jana - even though there's a lot to know.
He works as a pilot, firefighter and sheriff's deputy and he sometimes clashes with his conversation/controlling father.
That's right, someone actually stands up to Jim Bob!
There's even been talk that Duggar may walk away from reality television entirely - not a stretch, since he's rarely on it.
As for Abbie, who is 26, she told Us the following about when her love first bloomed for this reluctant TLC cast member:
“John flew in for a church event here in Oklahoma where I’m from," she said. "We really got connected then.”
Well... okay then!
We see that she is a woman of few words (at least publicly). No wonder these two get along so well, are we right?
That's not all they have in common, either.
According to the now-defunct BurnettFamily10 blog that was once run by Burnett’s family, Abbie had seven siblings as of 2010.
Among her brothers and sisters? One brother whose hyphenated name is strikingly similar to that of her future husband.
The archived “About” section of this since-deleted blog lists John-Clay, Hannah, Caleb, Charity, twins Maggie and Carinna and Benjamin.
And according to TLC's website, Abbie works as a nurse, which makes her a perfect match for volunteer first responder JDD.
She resides, as she said, in Oklahoma, while John-David lives in Arkansas with his family. At least for now, it's a long-distance thing.
We wonder where they will live if they get married, but that's a question for another day. This day is for celebration across the region!
"Big news! #JohnDavidDuggar has a special someone," wrote TLC on its official Instagram account, adding as a tease:
"Visit TLCme (dot) com to meet the happy couple, and learn more about #AbbieBurnett."
Wow. Abby Burnett has her own hashtag. Already. That's when you know things are getting serious!
John-David one quipped that he'll be a "bachelor until the rapture," so he truly must have intense feelings for Abbie.
Or he must feel intense pressure from his loved ones, all of whom seem to be cranking out kids left and right lately.
Well, except for Jana, but that's neither here nor there. Either way... best of luck to the new and official couple!
And call us, Jana!
"We are so excited to announce the courtship of John David and Abbie!" Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar wrote in a statement on the family's website, adding:
"John David brings our hearts so much joy and we've watched him faithfully pray, wait, and trust God for the right girl to come along! Now, a beautiful relationship has blossomed between the two of them.
"We can't wait to see what the Lord will do in the future."
