Dancing With the Stars Season 23 Episode 11 Recap: Halloween Blues

by at .  Updated at .

Halloween well and truly arrived on Dancing With the Stars Season 23 Episode 11, but not everyone managed to make the live show.

It was revealed that Sharna Burgess was out of episode, but we have absolutely no idea at this stage whether she will return to the show this season.

James Hinchliffe and Jenna Johnson As the Joker and Harley Quinn

Some reports have stated that she should be recovering for 3-6 weeks, but we'll need to wait and see if she makes a return.

Each couple were tasked with performing twice and the pair with the highest score from the judges would get five extra points and immunity. That's a pretty great incentive.

We'll run down the performances of the night...

Terra Jolé and Sasha Farber

The two performed to "Day-O" by Harry Belafonte. The Cha Cha was in the vein of Beetlejuice and it was surprisingly good. However, the judges took issue with this being close to semifinals and collectively agreed that the performance was not perfect.

This was no doubt huge blow to the dancing duo and they tried to find the good in a bad situation.

Score: 24/30.

Laurie Hernandez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy

This duo performed a Viennese Waltz to "Pure Imagination" by Jane Monheit. The performance really delivered. Everything about it was so right. There were no issues at all and that judges seemed to agree that it was perfect.

Valentin was so concerned with getting it all right that he did.

Score: 30/30.

Marilu Henner and Derek Hough

This duo decided to do the Argentine Tango to "Sweet Dreams" by Emily Browning. Marilu's foot pain continued to cause problems for her. She knew it was time to raise the game after the performance on "Eras Night."

The performance was really less than stellar. It came across as though Marilu was too nervous to perform well. The judges noticed this and pointed it out.

Score: 23/30.

Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold

This duo performed to "Dr. Bones" by the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

Is it just us, or do the performances that are dedicated to someone else seem to go down better with the judges? Calvin's son, Caleb visited and Calvin then dedicated the performance to him.

It was a good performance, but there were some others that were more deserving of a score as high as they got.

Score: 30/30.

Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke

"Howlin' For You" by The Black Keys was the song of choice for America's favorite liar and Cheryl. Ryan has been trying his best to improve in recent weeks, but the judges were quick to point out that he slouched through the performance.

Maybe he was nervous, or something. Either way, the judges were on to him.

Score: 23/30.

Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko

Jana and Gleb jazzed it up to "Little Shop of Horrors" by Alan Menken. The main obstacle for this performance was that Gleb had never done a jazz routine before, so this was a learning curve for both dancers.

The duo wanted to make a comeback in a big way and thought jazz was the way to go. It was a solid effort, but Gleb tried to change it up a little too much. Carrie Ann was surprised by the performance and gave it rave reviews.

Score: 27/30.

James Hinchcliffe and Jenna Johnson

This duo decided to do the Viennese Waltz to “You Don’t Own Me” by Grace ft. G-Easy from Suicide Squad. As you can probably guess, they dressed up as characters from the movie, too.

Jenna stepping in for Sharna was a good move. Sharna is great, but if she was going to struggle, it made more sense for Jenna to step in temporarily. Jenna proved she was the perfect replacement and really understood James.

The performance was nothing short of spectacular and it was reflected in the scores.

Score: 30/30.

Jenna and James managed to avoid the dance-off after getting perfect scores. The remaining six couples got ready to battle, but the unlucky couple was Ryan and Cheryl.

Ryan lasted considerably longer than anyone thought he would, but that was all down to Cheryl.
